Nestled in the bountiful Connecticut River Valley, the Walpole Grocery is a small specialty store actively striving to support the local economy by working hand-in-hand with area farmers and other artisan producers to make good, clean food accessible. The store features a diverse selection of locally sourced artisanal cheeses, meats and bakery items, as well as a constantly changing seasonal array of organic fruits and vegetables.
At the butcher counter, house-made charcuterie is de rigueur, along with freshly made sausages and cutting done to order. Seafood is sourced as close to home as possible, with an emphasis on wild catches and sustainable practices. Elsewhere, the grocery’s flair for the international is apparent in its variety of European cheeses, broad range of ethnic ingredients, and growing collection of hand-selected wines and craft beers.
Our staff is friendly, knowledgeable and approachable, with a commitment to providing outstanding customer service. We look forward to assisting you in procuring exceptional food that has been carefully and conscientiously produced.
GROCERY SHELVES: We stock a diverse array of natural, gourmet and international food items, ranging from buttery olive oils and aged balsamic vinegars to hand-cut pastas, hard to find ethnic ingredients and even artisan-made breads, crackers and cookies. Our spice section packs an aromatic punch, the chutneys, jams and jellies are sourced locally, and all of the stocks, sauces and condiments carefully selected for quality and taste. Finding excellent ingredients should never be a chore, which is why we are only too happy to assist you in seeking out the items that will help transform a weeknight meal into a memorable feast!
BUTCHER COUNTER: In this day and age of factory farming, knowing and having confidence in your butcher is of paramount importance. Our butchers are creative, knowledgeable and friendly, and enjoy the challenge of stocking as much humanely and locally raised meat as possible. Stop in and ask about special cuts, browse the house-made sausages and charcuterie, or order your holiday centerpiece turkeys and roasts. If seafood is more your speed, we are more than happy to answer questions you may have about the sustainably raised and wild-caught fish and shellfish in our case. Don’t see something you need? We are always willing to take special orders, too!
PREPARED FOODS: We obviously love good food and are always eager to share the bounty that comes out of our kitchen! The selection of freshly made soups, salads and sides changes daily, as does the delicious array of cakes, cookies and other desserts in our pastry case. Looking for a lunch item to grab and go? Choose from wrapped and ready to go cold sandwiches, or come early to nab one of our hot-off-the-grill panini; the sandwich menu changes daily and can be found on our Facebook page. Still need some meal inspiration? Don’t forget to check the freezer, where you will find delicious lasagnas and other meal inspirations.
WINE AND BEER: At the WG each bottle of wine is hand-picked, from the budget friendly bottles all the way up to celebratory bottles of Champagne. We take pride in our selections, and enjoy talking over the finer points of each wine to help you make an informed choice, whether it is for something perfect to sip by itself or a bottle to pair with a specific meal. We take just as much care choosing the beer on our shelves as we do with everything else in the store. You will find a growing variety of local and craft beers, along with less common imports. Not sure what you’re looking for? Our staff is terrific at making recommendations!
CHEESE COUNTER : Our cheese case features a delicious mix of old world European selections next to a growing assortment of locally and domestically produced artisan choices. Choose among cave aged hard cheeses, soft creamy offerings and everything in between, including renowned blues and fresh-from-the-farm chevres. We have everything you need to create an unforgettable cheese board or a silky fondue, including condiments and baguettes. If you are unfamiliar with some of the cheese in the case we’re happy to help answer any questions you might have so that you can make an informed selection.
